Documents for the application

  • completed and signed application form
  • 10 examples of recent work (drawings, studies, photographs, applied design work, etc.) printed on A4 format (210 x 297 mm) or letter format (8 1/2” x 11”) paper. Mark each piece with your name. Do not send electronic files either on CD or by e-mail.
  • 2 letters of recommendation from the school where you have studied, your employer, or from other figures in the field of art and design.

Length of stay

On the application form, please state whether you are applying for the first or both semesters of study at the Basel School of Design. The payment for the second semester may be made while you are in Basel.

 

Confirmation of your acceptance

We will accept a maximum of 20 students into the Basics in Design programme.
There will also be a waiting list.

You will be notified by e-mail of your acceptance at the end of May 2010.

 

Semester fees

The total fee for each semester of study is 7'350.– Swiss francs
The total tuition for one year of study is 14'700.– Swiss francs
 

The schedule of payments is as follows:

  1. Upon acceptance into the programme, a deposit of 2'400.- Swiss francs must be received 2 weeks later.
  2. The remaining tuition fee of 4'950.- Swiss francs must be received no later than June 30, 2010.
  3. For students continuing for a second semester of study, the tuition fee of 7'350.- Swiss francs must be received no later than January 30, 2011.

We will confirm the receipt of the payments by e-mail within 10 days of the deadlines.

Please note: only with the full payment of tuition fees as detailed above will you be able to join the programme and begin your studies at the Basel School of Design.

Cancellations

The deposit payment of 2’400.– Swiss francs for the first semester is non-refundable. If you have made a second payment and cancel in writing before August 4, 2010, the tuition fee of 4’950.– Swiss francs will be refunded. For any later cancellations no refunds will be made.

 

Residence permit in Switzerland

As a student from a non-European (Non EU) country, you will need a residence permit in order to study in Switzerland. You must apply for this through the Swiss Embassy in your own country. After we receive your deposit payment, we will send you a letter of confirmation stating that you have enrolled at the Basel School of Design. This letter must be presented to the Swiss Embassy in your country in order for you to be issued a residence permit. Important: You must obtain this permit before your arrival in Basel! Applications must be submitted in your home country!
