Kurt Würmli

His manifold interests inspired him to attend schools and pursue projects in various countries. Undergraduate video studies in Basel and in New York were followed by graduate studies at the University of Hawai'i in Manoa, where he received his PhD in theater. Exhibitions of his audio-visual works have been mounted in New York, Russia and France, and he has designed sets for a wide variety of stage and theater productions. In addition to teaching concept in the Basics in Design programme, Kurt Würmli is also director of the Poster Collection of the Basel School of Design.

 

Lisa Pomeroy

Graduated from the Cooper Union in New York City where she majored in graphic design and typography. She studied the history of art and architecture at Smith College. She has worked in design studios in New York, San Francisco, Munich, and Basel in the areas of editorial design, information graphics, corporate identity and screen interface design. Her teaching at the Basel School of Design focuses on typography and letterform design.

 

 

Dorothea Flury

Completed her federal Swiss diploma in Graphic Design at the Basel School of Design, which was at that time headed by Armin Hofmann. In Switzerland, she worked in the graphic design studio of Uli Schierle and in the agency Schmidlin & Partner, which specialized in package design. She was also employed by the design agency Kimura Bingham in Tucson, Arizona. Starting in 1982, she taught colour, calligraphy, and letterform design, as well as design process. In 1993 she became Department Head of the Foundation Programme, and in 2001, she assumed the position of Director of the Basel School of Design. She has been a visiting instructor at the following schools: the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor; Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo; the Atlanta College of Art; the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga; Universidad de las Américas in Puebla; Universidad Intercontinental in Mexico City; Universidad Anáhuac in Mexico City; Escuela Gestalt de Diseño in Xalapa.

 

 

Mikkel Mangold

Studied history, philosophy, classical philology, and history of art and architecture at the Universities of Basel, Berlin, Ghent and Jerusalem. Taught Latin, French, Dutch, history, geography and history of art and architecture. Busy with medieval manuscripts and the critical edition of the works of Jacob Burckhardt, founding father of cultural history.
